Configuring and Using Floating Mullions

Guide on how to configure and use floating mullions

Essential for fire egress windows integrate now supports floating mullion windows. In this session we will show how they are configured and how the details appear on the manufacturing details.

Example

In this example we have a casement window usually made with with 60mm mullion internally and 30mm externally. 60mm mullion is the standard size for this range/ company.

To create this as a floating mullion we remove the mullion and the casements and replace them with a french mullion and include a tick for  Has Floating Mullion

When viewed on the mullion editor it shows the casement stiles less glazing rebate (18mm in this case)

Here the overall is the Slave RH stile+35mm mullion fixed to slave sash+ 5mm clearance for the master leaf plus Master LH stile.

37+35+5+37=114mm overall.

On the slave leaf there is no gap as the 5mm is taken upp my the mullion. 5mm less is machined out of the slave side. Therefore 10mm stop shown left side and 15mm right side.

The default for these values is set onthe French casement default values.

The finished (external millon thickness is incresed by 5mm from 30mm to 35mm

Instead of incresing the mullion thickness the slave sash stile could be increded. This can be done on the timber cutting list.

An example rule would be.
